Paphos Podiatrist Ingrowing Toenail

Paphos Podiatrist – Nail Surgery

Toenail surgery is the removal of a part of, or all of a toenail, in order to resolve the problems caused by an ingrown toenail i.e. pain and/or repeated infections. The procedure takes approximately one hour and is carried out under local anaesthesia injections to numb your toe. Most of the times, a chemical called phenol is used to prevent the nail or section of nail from growing back again.

Your podiatrist needs to assess you before booking a date for a toenail procedure. They will ask you questions about your general health and current medications so that they can assess if you are eligible for toenail surgery under local anaesthesia.

Ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis) are characterised by:

  1. Redness, swelling and pain, warm to touch.
  2. Overgrowth of skin tissue around the affected side of the toe.
  3. Infection and purulent exudate, in more severe cases of infection fever may be present.
